Garnitzen Gorge
On hot summer days, we recommend visiting the exciting “Garnitzenklamm” in Hermagor.
You will have no problems walking the first two sections with your children. However, a hike through the gorge from start to finish (5 info stations in total) requires surefootedness and a head for heights.
The Garnitzenbach is the name of the stream that has eaten away deep into the limestone rock in the last 460 million years, thus creating this gorge over the course of earth’s history. The Geotrail, a nature theme path featuring descriptions of panoramas and area geology, leads you through the gorge and provides insights into 600 million years of our planet’s history.
